Matching existing texture
Knockdown patterns vary by hopper tip, mud viscosity, dwell time, and knife angle — a "Houston standard" knockdown from one house won't match the one next door. We bring a sample board to the walk-through, shoot a few test patches against a reference wall, and tune. The match is approved in writing before we move to production.
New construction
On new builds we coordinate texture timing with the painter so the topcoat goes on before dust accumulates in the stipple. Knockdown over Level 3 finishing is the standard cost-effective spec; if the homeowner is upgrading to a smoother look in the kitchen and primary suite, we can transition to a finer orange-peel or Level 5 on a per-room basis without a seam visible from the doorway.
Repair and remediation
Patching existing knockdown to invisible is its own craft — the new patch has to match pattern, paint sheen, and aging. For larger remediation (water damage, structural-movement cracking) we work in 4×8 areas, retexture the full panel, and feather into the surrounding pattern. For small holes we hand-tool the stipple to match.
